Cherno more project (Bourgas Municipality, SE Bulgaria)
The area of Cherno more coal basin is about 300 km2.
Four local communities - Heerlen, Netherlands; Zagorje, Slovenia; Czeladz, Poland and Bourgas (Cherno more),
Bulgaria will demonstrate the use of available low valued renewable energy sources (RES) from water in abandoned coalmines for heating and cooling of buildings,
based on low exergy principals, facilitated by an integrated design of buildings and energy concepts. They will realize two sustainable mining communities (Heerlen and Zagorje) with 50 to 100% CO2 reduction and 60% renewable energy sources compared with standard national practices.
Feasibility studies leading to concrete local sustainable energy plans and implementation will be demonstrated in Czelads, Cherno more, Zagorje and the nearby former mining communities in Heerlen.
An integrated sustainable redevelopment will contribute to a high extent in the rehabilitation of these areas and integrating RES from local available sources in combination with fossil fuels in new and existing buildings.
