RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
Diatom morphology & Taxonomy: More of 850 species, varieties and forms of freshwater diatoms from Neogene basins in South Bulgaria are summarized; new species belonged to genera Actinocyclus Ehr., Cyclotella Kutz. et Breb., Cymbella Ag., Amphora Ehr., Navicula Bory, , and Diploneis Ehr. are described; species, belonged to genera Aulacoseira Thw., Ellerbeckia Crawf., Fragilaria Lyngbye are revised; the varieties within Cyclotella iris Brun & Herib. group are described;
Neogene-Quaternary nonmarine & marine diatom biostratigraphy: Four biostratigraphical zones for Neogene nonmarine sediments within Sofia basin are used as a model for diatom distribution in the correlative Formations in Southwestern Balkan Peninsula: 44 Neogene Basins in Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey; Pleistocene/Holocene freshwater diatoms from alpine lakes in Pirin Mountains; Miocene marine diatoms from Eastern Paratethys; Holocene marine diatoms from Black sea sediments;
Palaeoenvironmental and palaeoecological mathematical models, based on siliceous microfossils as palaeoecological indicators: Environmental changes reflected by siliceous microfossils (diatoms, chrysophycean statospores, silicoflagellates, and ebridians) in deposits with nonmarine and marine origin are demonstrated by different multivariate methods: minimum variance clustering (Ward’s method) canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), and etc;
Water quality assessment and biological monitoring of rivers and lakes: Spatial and temporal variation of modern periphytic diatom communities in high-mountain lakes, Rila Mts.;
Assay of algal communities from streams in Bulgaria and the United States (EPA);
